History

Great Lakes Reinsurance was originally formed in Canada in 1951. Munich Re acquired the Toronto based company in 1975 and established Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) PLC in the UK in 1987 with the aim to access and better service the London market.

Authorisation

Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) PLC is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Münchener Rückversicherungs Gesellschaft AG (Munich Re AG) and was first authorised in the UK on the 13th of November 1987. Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) PLC is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) under reference number FRN202715.
